Tulum's festival season, in one place

Tulum's big electronic festivals run through the New Year weeks, when the town is at its fullest. Three names carry the season: Zamna, which turns ten this year and runs ten days from December 31 to January 10; Tehmplo, which announces single nights around New Year and early January; and Day Zero, Damian Lazarus' one-night ceremony in the jungle on January 9.

They are all jungle venues outside town, they all run late, and the headline nights sell out in phases rather than all at once. What that means in practice: the ticket you want is usually gone before you have decided which nights to do, and the table you want is gone earlier still. Line-ups are released night by night, so the planning happens in bursts.

We book tickets, Multipasses and VIP tables for all three, and we plan the rest of the night around them: dinner before, a driver who knows where to drop you and where to wait, and the pick-up at sunrise when there is no taxi in sight. For groups that is the difference between a night out and a logistics exercise.
