Planning Cancún with locals

Most trips to the Riviera Maya start at Cancún airport, and for many groups Cancún is part of the trip: a night out in the Hotel Zone, a yacht day to Isla Mujeres, or a first night close to the airport before heading south.

The Hotel Zone is a long strip between the Caribbean and the lagoon, with beach clubs, restaurants, rooftops and the clubs Cancún is known for. It is big, busy and spread out, which is why a plan and a driver make a real difference.

Tell us what you want from Cancún and we fit it into the rest of your trip, whether you stay here the whole time or combine it with Playa del Carmen and Tulum.

What we plan in Cancún

  • Yachts to Isla Mujeres

Private yachts and catamarans with open bar and snorkeling, to Isla Mujeres or along the coast.

  • Clubs and VIP tables

Tables and entry at the Hotel Zone clubs, with a driver so nobody has to find a taxi at 4 a.m.

  • Restaurants and rooftops

Dinner reservations for groups, from steakhouses and seafood to rooftop bars with lagoon views.

  • Villas and group stays

Villas and large apartments for groups, in the Hotel Zone or quieter areas nearby.

  • Whale sharks in summer

From mid-May to mid-September, swimming with whale sharks from Cancún or Isla Mujeres.

  • Airport transfers

Private pickup for the whole group at CUN, to Cancún, Playa del Carmen or Tulum.

Who plans your trip

We live here.

We’ve been in the Riviera Maya for more than 15 years: first in Playa del Carmen and on Cozumel, and for the last 6 as a concierge in Tulum.

When you plan with us, you get the people we work with every week: villa owners, chefs, captains, drivers and the teams at the clubs and restaurants. We only send you places we would send our own friends.

Bon Vivant Tulum was founded in 2020 by Virginia Longoria.

Cancún: questions we get

Can you plan just a night or two in Cancún?

Yes. Many groups spend the first or last night near the airport; we plan a dinner, a table or a yacht day and the transfer.

How long does it take from Cancún to Tulum?

About 1 hour 45 minutes by car, depending on traffic. We book a private transfer for your group.

When is whale shark season?

Roughly mid-May to mid-September. Outside those months we recommend a yacht day to Isla Mujeres instead.

Does planning cost anything in Cancún?

No. Planning is free. Our partners pay us a commission.

Tell us your dates. We’ll plan the rest.

Who’s coming, when, and what you’re celebrating. For high season (December to March), start three to six months ahead.
