Real moments
From our guests
A private chef in Tulum, in plain terms
A chef comes to your villa, shops for the night, cooks in your kitchen, serves the table and leaves it clean. For a group it usually beats a restaurant: no reservation for twelve, no taxis both ways, no fixed menu, and the evening runs on your clock rather than the restaurant's.
What kind of menus can you ask for?
Most groups pick one of four directions: Yucatecan and Mexican classics such as cochinita pibil, ceviche and handmade tortillas; international menus from Italian to Asian fusion; wellness menus that are vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free; or a multi-course tasting menu with wine or mezcal pairings. The chef builds the menu around your group, not the other way round.
When does a chef make the most sense?
On arrival night, when nobody wants to go out again; on the big celebration night, when a villa dinner with decoration beats a restaurant table; and on the quiet night after the long one. Breakfast by the pool and a sunset dinner with cocktails are both part of the same service.
How do we book it?
Tell us the date, the group size, the villa and any allergies. We send you the chef's menu and price before anything is confirmed, and we coordinate the timing with the rest of your plan. Our side is free: the chefs and villas we book pay the commission.
Ask about a private chefPrivate chef questions
What does a private chef in Tulum cost?
It depends on the menu, the group size and whether you want a bartender as well. We send you the chef’s quote before you book anything, and planning is free for you. TODO (Virginia): typical price per person.
How far in advance should we book a chef?
For high season and New Year, as early as you have your villa. Outside those weeks, a week or two is usually enough. The chefs we work with cook for a limited number of groups per night.
Can the chef cook for allergies or a vegan group?
Yes. Tell us the allergies and preferences with the booking and the chef builds the menu around them, including vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free menus.
Does the chef bring everything?
The chef shops, cooks in the villa kitchen, serves and leaves it clean. You provide the kitchen; everything else comes with them.
Can we add a bartender or a sommelier?
Yes, mixologists and wine pairings are available, and that is the usual setup for a celebration dinner or a welcome night.
