Tulum Cenotes: Private Tours & Hidden Gems

Tulum Cenotes: Private Tours & Hidden Gems

Cenotes are the reason many groups spend a morning in the jungle instead of on the beach. Here is what they are, how a private tour works, and what a luxury cenote club adds to the day.

Why visit a cenote in Tulum?

Cenotes are natural sinkholes filled with turquoise water, and they are sacred places as well as swimming spots. You can swim, snorkel, dive or simply sit by the water in the shade, which makes a cenote one of the few outings in Tulum that suits a whole group at once, whatever each person is in the mood for.

What exactly is a cenote?

Cenotes are part of an ancient underground river system unique to the Yucatán Peninsula. Limestone walls, jungle above and clear water below give each one its own atmosphere, so no two feel the same. Visiting one is less a sightseeing stop than a couple of hours in a place where nature takes center stage.

How does a private cenote tour work?

A private cenote tour means private transportation, an expert guide and access to the quieter cenotes rather than the ones on every tour route. You travel on your own schedule, stay as long as you want, and take in the water without a group waiting behind you. We arrange these as cenote tours and day trips.

We send groups in the morning, and the earlier the better. The cenotes near Tulum fill up as the day goes on, so the first hours after opening are the ones where you get the water to yourselves. It also means you are back at the villa or the beach by lunchtime.

What is a luxury cenote club?

A luxury cenote club is a cenote with hospitality built around it. You swim in the clear water, then move to champagne service, gourmet food and lounge areas surrounded by jungle. These spaces are designed for groups and celebrations, which is why they work for a bachelorette party, a smaller gathering or a wellness retreat day.

The trade-off is that a cenote club is a full day rather than a morning, so keep the rest of that day light.

How do we plan your cenote day?

At Bon Vivant Tulum, we build the day around the rest of your trip: a hidden cenote, a private guided tour or a cenote club, plus transport, reservations and extras such as a spa ritual or private dinner afterwards. Planning is free, because our partners pay the commission.

Send us your dates and group size on WhatsApp and we will put the day together. See how planning works.
